To grow and expand business most leaders look “outside” to new opportunities, new products, new customers, new employees and new profit centers. While there’s certainly nothing wrong with this approach, it’s not where I recommend you start your search. Instead, look “inside” your business at current opportunities and resolve how to get more out of what you already have. Too often we ignore the obvious assets right at our finger tips each day and that’s unfortunate since they normally require less effort and dollars to maximize than the cost of acquiring new opportunities and growth. One reason it’s tempting to do other business and dive into new opportunities is because it’s more exciting than the drab exercise of figuring out how to maximize the opportunities you’re misusing every day. But until you’re focused on milking all you can out of current opportunities you really don’t deserve new opportunities to abuse in the same manner.
