My Expert Service

Autism is a world that takes years to learn how to navigate, and the IEP process is probably the most difficult. I have sat at both sides of the IEP table. I am a licensed middle level educator (in the areas of Social Studies and English Language Arts) and I am a mom of two beautiful boys with Autism Spectrum disorders. It is still typical in this day and age to try and self contain these children. Despite his high level of functioning, they attempted to place my youngest son in a self contained setting, despite the fact that the ed-psych report showed his intelligence levels to be perfectly normal. When he had trouble following her directions (which were not being delivered in one to two step commands) she would yell at him, sending him flying under the desk, slapping his ears. She told me to “make him stop.” I told her “stop yelling at him”…at that moment she made it her mission to get him out of her classroom at all costs. Due to my efforts and expertise at the IEP table, he is now in a mainstream classroom with a shadow. I regularly take classes in mainstreaming children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and now current teachers say that the information I give and the regularly updated website I provide for them has been immensely helpful in their efforts to include my sons. I have also taught students with Autism in my regular education classroom and have dealt successfully with implementing strategies to help them be successful in a world full of neurotypical people. I am here to help both sides of this daily struggle. I can give advice to the parent on issues dealing with IEPs. I can give assistance to regular education teachers who would like to optimize instruction for their inclusive classroom. Chances are, whatever you are dealing with, I have been there…and am now here to help.

Experience & Qualifications

I have taken many professional development seminars on inclusive practices in the mainstream environment.
