Being a Family doctor (30 years experience now) and working for the Health Portuguese system gave me plenty of insight and a good understanding of the motifs for a patient to come to see a family doctor. Most of the times patients are eager of an understanding and emphatic human being to be with them in their pain, not only a proficient expert to classify their symptoms and get out with some disease and some pills to alleviate it.
I'm not saying that I'm not a proficient expert, what I'm saying is that, for me, you are a person,a suffering human being, not a bundle of symptoms.
That's why I'm here, to stay with you when you are not even capable to get out and seek for help.

Sou médica de família há 30 anos. Passei por Centros de Saúde de norte a sul de Portugal. Esse caminho, fi-lo com uma vontade indomável de ajudar. Ajudar pessoas que não tinham apoios nem sociais nem familiares. Para isso é preciso que pensemos nos doentes que nos procuram como seres humanos, não pacotes de sintomas.
Estou aqui para continuar esta missão que me incumbi: estar sempre presente quando alguém sofre.
Penso nas pessoas isoladas em casa, sem possibilidade de procurarem socorro, nos emigrantes portugueses em países estrangeiros isolados pela língua, nos países de expressão portuguesa em que não há sistemas de saúde capazes de abarcarem a população, em que, muitas vezes não é a própria doença que mata mas o desconhecimento.
Estou aqui para vocês todos, procurem-me porque posso ajudar.
