My Expert Service

My goal is to provide positive, proactive strategies that help children and young adults with ASD succeed at school, on the job and in the community. I can provide information about the various early intervention models, communication and visual support systems, sensory integration, special education in Ontario, positive behaviour supports and functional behaviour assessments to deal with challenging behaviors. I believe strongly in using a person’s interests to engage and interact with them, and to develop and promote functional skills. Practical and down to earth, I offer non-judgmental support and advice.

Experience & Qualifications

I am the mother of a 17 year old young man with Aspergers - formerly non-verbal and dx'd with Autism at age 4, and a 19 year old son at university. I became actively involved in his early intervention program and education, developing his Individual Program Plan (IPP), coordinating his early intervention team, and collaborating on his Individual Education Plans (IEPs). I have volunteered on the elementary and secondary school councils. For the past 13 years I've been involved with my local Autism Ontario chapter as a volunteer on the Chapter Leadership Council, providing support and advice to families, advising them on the special education system in Ontario, promoting public awareness at community events, speaking publicly to college students and community organizations, organizing Social Learning Opportunities, as well as a variety of seminars about ASDs and how to best support individuals in the home, community and education system. I’ve completed PECS Training and attended Geneva Centre for Autism Conferences and training sessions. As chapter resource coordinator I have access to resources about early intervention models, communication and visual support systems, sensory integration, positive behavior supports and functional behavior assessments. I have attended public speaking events featuring Temple Grandin, Tony Attwood, Carol Gray and Kathleen Quill.
