My Expert Service

I have been in the counseling profession for 20+ years, there's not much I haven't dealt with in the world of therapy as I've treated people in various stages of the lifespan; from children to adolescents, to couples, to families and senior citizens. Don't let my years of experience and credentials phase you, I am a man of these times with positive energy and an open mind. My approach is tailored to best fit each individual, taking into consideration both the person and the issue that they are facing at a particular time. One of my "Marrisms" resulted from a saying that most have heard, "Most people tend to take the path of least resistance." My addition to this is, "The path of least resistance is always and definitively the path of most resistance." If one doesn't deal with issues as they arise, usually due to the belief that the issue will take care of itself with time, the issue or problem will morph (change) or become larger with time. Common sense would mandate that one ought resolve the issue ASAP. However, in truth, sense is not common. My therapeutic approach to working through problems/issues is three prong: 1) Insight 2) Education 3) Skills. Insight can be gained through a trusting relationship with a friend or family member. However, without clinical training, education and skills will not be realized. By gaining all three c omponents, and learning how to affectively utilize them in one's life, in a sens,e helps "bullet proof" the client in the future when confronted with a new situation/problem. In working with clients struggling with depression, relationship issues, anxiety, shyness, anger, etc., my clients have been very successful with my three prong model. Incorporated within the model are various therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Impulse Control Training, to name a few. I love people and the human condition. As a result, I am a strong advocate with unshakeable loyalty for my clients. We will work together in achieving your goal(s).

Experience & Qualifications

I have worked in an array of mental health environments. My earliest experience was working in an unlocked psychiatric unit in a general hospital as a Mental Health Tech. This was very much a learning experience as I was newly graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Recreation with a minor in Psychology. While I was employed at the hospital I did both individual and group therapy with the patients and worked recovery following Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT). I also served as Clinical Director for three different practices, two of which I was the founder. Within these practices I as functioned as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Play Therapist, and Adolescent and Adult Therapist. I am trained in hypnosis and was licensed as a Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist for 20+ years. I am also certified as a Mediator, which has proved invaluable in doing work with couples and families. I also worked as a Special Education Supervisor and Behavior Management Specialist for a School District. While in this position, I supervised twenty-five school psychologists and two interns. Additionally, I supervised the self-contained programs, K-12, for emotionally disturbed students. I also taught crisis management to the school psychologists, administrators, and teachers. Finally, I hold a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do that has taught me the gift of patience.
