I think hands on experience is the only kind to have. I have worked in the medical facility as well as in the lab. I have seen the problem first hand and now in the lab I work to fix the problem. I studied Zoology and Marine Biology in Florida. I am a certified scuba diver that would study at school and go diving to see for myself!
