My Expert Service
|
Horses:
I've done both paid and non-paid (volunteer) work, involving the care and training of green-broke horses, and assisting in teaching beginner and intermediate lessons to the public (both Western and English - but more of a hybrid of the two) for the past seven years. I also have a horse of my own: a off-the-track thoroughbred/appaloosa cross, 7 year old mare named Rogue.
Dogs:
I have had dogs in my life for the past 16 years. Growing up with them I've learned how to teach basic commands, deal with various behaviors (herding instincts/shyness/jumping-up, excessive barking) as well as deal with the general care of my dogs. My family and I currently have two female dogs: a 6 year old Bichon Frise' named Abbie and a little 2 year-old mutt (unknown breed) named Ruby.
Other:
I do have some (but limited) knowledge in the following: Aquarium fish, and birds. Specifically Parrotlets. I currently own a male 10 year-old Pacific Parrotlet named Tinker. While I'm not knowledgeable in this area and we've only had him for a short while (6+ months) - I can still provide a basic knowledge to the general care of small birds as well as fish.

Experience & Qualifications
|
While I am definitely not a professional of any sort, I do feel like I am very well rounded and knowledgeable (to a point) in the following. I will do my very best to answer any and all questions you may have.
Horses:
Area's of expertise - Including: Work under saddle, Re-training, Vices (biting, kicking, rearing, bucking, bolting etc.), Off-the-track cases (ie: mounting issues, boundless energy (or, "hot head") bolting, stopping issues, lack of training etc), horses with a history of abuse, and general beginner advice and horse communication.
( examples: "I want a horse, what should I do?" / "What breed of horse is best for me?" / "I am a beginner, what advice can you give that could help me improve my seat and/or riding skills?" / "I am showing my horse for the first time and am very nervous about it, do you have any advice on how to relax to make it a good time for both me and my horse?" / "My horse is bucking/kicking/rearing/bucking/bolting/ doing (___insert problem here___) and it's making me scared of him and I don't like it! Please help!" / "What sort of tack should I get..." / "Where are the best places to find a horse?" )
A majority of the horses that I've worked with in my time were very high energy, emotional, and sensitive (both to the leg and seat aids as well as to human emotion's) and had a lot of emotional baggage from past owners that was redirected in the form of acting out, which included: bucking, bolting, rearing, biting and so forth. While I am knowledgeable in other area's, this, as well as general beginner advice is where I feel I am most capable and able to help, just due to the fact that I've had an extensive amount of experience in these area's.
