1. Supervise and direct the preparation, presentation and, if necessary, the appeal of cases in which the consequence of error could be unusually serious. 2. Investigate, prepare for trial, and conduct defense of adults and of juveniles in jurisdictional and dispositional hearings. Appear with and for defendants at court hearings. 3. Decide and make appropriate legal motions and pleas and take other legal action on behalf of clients. 4. Conduct legal research and prepare legal briefs and opinions. 5. Argue the merits of probation for defendants; prepared appeals, writs, and other legal correspondence. 6. Negotiate with prosecuting authorities regarding the disposition or modification of charges. 7. Order investigations and subpoenas; interview defendants and witnesses. 8. Assist, advise, and train lower level attorneys. 9. Supervise and direct the preparation, presentation and, if necessary, the appeal of cases in which the consequence of error could be unusually serious. 10. Perform specialized legal research involving unique and complex areas of law. 11. Direct the planning, evaluation, and implementation of specialized projects on any given area of law requiring criminal defense. 12. Assign and review the work of a support staff consisting of attorneys, investigators, and clerical employees. Recommend appointments, promotions and appropriate discipline of department employees. ************************************************************ Internships: 1. Camp David Gonzalez (maximum security facility for violent youth criminal offenders). 2. Manos De Esperanza Community Mental Health Center (targets the latino population). 3. Tri-Counties Regional Center (serving the developmentally disabled). 4. Transitional homes for severely disturbed adolescents.
