Learn Katakana and Hiragana the easy way. You will learn the Hiragana and Katakana alphabet in as many lessons needed. There are four components of Japanese writing: Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji and (the Latin alphabet) Romaji. I will be teaching you two of the four components. Firstly I will be teaching you Hiragana. Hiragana is one basic component of the Japanese writing system. Hiragana is used where Kanji can not be used. Hiragana is also used to give the pronounciation of a Kanji, this is called Furigana. After you are confident with your learnings of Hiragana I will teach you how to write and pronounce Katakana. Katakana, like hiragana, is a phonetic script much like English where each character has a unique sound and the characters can be written one after the next to spell out a word. In modern Japanese Katakana is used for transcription of words from foreign languages except Chinese. Katakana is usually used for country names, foreign places, and foreign personal names.
