My Expert Service
|
|
I have been a Unix system admministrator since 1993 (primarily AIX, with Linux as a secondary focus, since 2000). I also am considered an expert in shell scripting (both ksh and bash). I have plenty of experience with network troubleshooting (connectivity, performance, and security issues resolution) and SAN connectivity. Finally, I have several years of disaster recovery (DR) preparation experience.

Experience & Qualifications

Since 2006, managed (including upgrades) a 100+ AIX server environment. Most of the servers are partitions (LPARs) on IBM p570 hardware. Partitions make heavy use of Virtual IO (VIO), and some use HACMP for clustering. Most partitions have SAN connectivity to EMC Symmetrix frames. I have designed and implemented strategies to perform Disaster Recovery "bare metal" recoveries of some of these partitions.
Over 50% of these servers run Oracle 9i or above. All the instances are standalone (we are not using Oracle RAC).
From 2000 and 2006, I was the head administrator who designed and implemented a migration from NCR's MP-RAS to IBM's AIX. I significantly improved the backup and recovery strategies, using IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and IBM's Flashcopy (snapshot) functionality.
Prior to 2000, at a number of smaller (fewer than 100 employees) organisations, I performed intermediate Linux administrator (primarily Redhat) duties, with Solaris and HPUX as secondary concerns. Most of these servers were Internet-facing, so security planning and troubleshooting was a major part of my duties. In some cases, I also performed front-line technical support.
