My Expert Service

I have 38 years of professional experience in a private practice. My competencies are in the areas of relationship conflict and disharmony, enhancing self-esteem, personal relationship problems, identity difficulties and role conflict, stress management, and severe emotional and psychological stress such as depression, anxiety, guilt, and anger. I have also worked with college students, have helped them cope with the transition to college, and I have supported parents in adjusting to their children going to college or into the military. I have worked next to a military installation and have extensive experience in working with soldiers with PTSD and in supporting them and their families in re-integration following deployment. I've been certified in Transactional Analysis and in Imago Relationship Therapy and I've received extensive training in Impact Therapy. I have received referrals from "Dr. Phil" and have a letter of appreciation from him for the services that I have provided for guests who appeared on his show.

Experience & Qualifications

The following represents my job experience as a psychologist: - 1991-1993 Assistant Research Scientist through Texas A&M University running an experiential group therapy component to compare the effectiveness of an intensive, short-term hospital treatment for 18-24 year old high-risk, active duty soldiers to traditional hospitalization, with subjects evidencing suicidal ideation or exhibiting a range of suicidal behaviors. - 1989-Present Certified and Licensed Psychologist engaged in private psycho-therapeutic practice focusing on individual, marital, family, and group psychotherapy. Also serving as a consultant available to facilitate workshops in stress management and communication effectiveness. I typically utilize "Impact Therapy", a form of therapy that combines creative counseling techniques and certain counseling theories (e.g., Rational-Emotive Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, and Reality Therapy). This approach is action and insight-oriented and is resolution-oriented and I will use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Transactional Analysis, and Gestalt Therapy with creative props, drawings, chairs, analogies, and movement, often seen in Impact Therapy. My competencies are in the following areas: • Individual Therapy-emphasizing assisting the client to enhance his/her diminished self-esteem and self-confidence • Marital Counseling-focusing on moderate or severe marital stress and utilizing Imago Relationship Therapy theory and techniques • Family Therapy-emphasizing family problems such as role conflict, identity problems within the family, general family conflict within the family, family tension, rebellious and defiant behaviors of children and adolescents, preparing a child and the family for the child's return to the home following placement • Any case in which someone is grieving over a loss, e.g., divorce, separation, placement of a child, loss of a job, termination of a professional career, etc. • "Fork-in-the-road" decisions • Severe emotional/psychological stress (depression, anxiety, guilt, school anxiety, fears, etc.) • Personal relationship problems with others • Any case which involves the client attempting to alter his/her "life script" of inadequacy, with the life pattern usually being one of repeating self-defeating behaviors, perpetuating criticism and feelings of worthlessness. • Adjustment reactions to any sort of stress - 1983-1988 Director of Professional Operations of Associated Counseling Services and Certified and Licensed Psychologist engaged in private practice focusing on individual, marital, family, and group psychotherapy. - 1978-1983 Licensed Consulting Psychologist associated with and the Director of (July 1979) Minnesota Midwest Transactional Analysis Institute. Engaged in private practice focusing on group, individual, marital, and family psychotherapy. Also serving as a consultant available to facilitate workshops in stress management, communication effectiveness, and transactional analysis. Also consultant to Upfront Consultation Services, a consultant to Foodaholic Treatment Center, an off-campus Continuing Education faculty member of the College of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN). - 1974-1978 Psychologist, Community Mental Health Activity, Darnall Army Community Hospital, Ft. Hood, Texas. Duties consisted of psychological test administration and interpretation, individual therapy, group therapy, marriage and family counseling, supervision of behavioral science specialists, in-service training lectures, and consultation.
