Working with individuals with special needs has been a passion for me for many years. I have held several positions in this field and have enjoyed every moment of it.I am currently a certified educator with 10 years experience teaching in the middle school environment in the subject areas of reading, language arts and math. As a special educator, I have the knowledge of special education laws, the Indiviudals with Disabilites Act (IDEA), the Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Individualized Habliltation Plans (IHP), Individualized and Transitions Plans (ITP). I also administer educational assessments in order to determine the student(s)current grade levels in reading, language arts and math. Developing a learning plan in the student(s) area of weakness is a process that must be customized for each individual while providing strategies that will assist in mastering the objectives. Experience & Qualifications

Fifteen years experience in helping students and families understand successful techniques in mastering learning objectives within the public school, Christian academies, home-schooled environments and group home. Ten of the fifteen years as a Special Educator teaching courses in reading, language arts, math and study skills at the elementary and middle school levels, administering educational assessment, implementing behavior strategies, collecting data, and teaching technology. Two years experience as a Residental Director in group home in Washington, D.C. In this role, I was responsible for all of the needs of the residents (education, home skills, banking, vacation planning, travel training, staffing, and reporting) who are developmentally delayed. This demanding position prepared me in the many challegnes of successful multi-tasking techniques that are still used in the classroom today. Additional experience as a Program Therapist within a day treatment program for individuals with disabilities where they learned how to independently care for themselves.
