My Expert Service
I have 15 years of general pediatric experience and 5 years in the field of pediatric sleep medicine. Unlike most physicians, I do not believe parents cause bedtime and night waking problems in children, and I do not advocate the use of methods like "crying it out" as treatment. I believe children who have trouble falling asleep or wake abnormally at night are suffering from insomnia - a symptom of a misdiagnosed or undiagnosed sleep disorder - requiring medical treatment on the part of the physician to resolve.

Experience & Qualifications
I practiced general pediatrics for 15 years, leaving this to devote myself full-time to the study of pediatric sleep medicine which I have done for the last 5 years. My interest in sleep disorders arises from the fact that my own child has a sleep disorder, and like most patients with these sorts of medical problems, he was not properly diagnosed and treated for far too long. My son's pediatrician and I were simply too poorly trained to recognize and treat the problem correctly, and we mistakenly believed his bedtime and night waking problems were "behavioral issues" I was causing by giving in to his demands for sleep too easily.
