Dr. LaPorta treats individuals with anxiety, depression, history of trauma, substance abuse, and difficulties with anger management. He has specialized training in psychopharmacology, and experience treating abuse survivors. Dr. LaPorta has treated diverse client populations with regard to patient symptomatology, psychosocial development, and cultural background. He has experience providing psychological services in a variety of settings including private practice, general hospitals and specialty clinics, public and private schools and learning centers, state hospitals, crisis stabilization units, jails, prisons, and community mental health centers. To ensure maximum therapeutic gain, the theoretical orientation and approach Dr. LaPorta utilizes is always tailored to each individual patient and presenting problem. Dr. LaPorta has successfully treated patients with eating disorders, dissociative disorders, addictions, intrusive thoughts, compulsions, and excessive worry. He has worked extensively with individuals with multiple stressors, limited resources, and health problems such as patients who are seriously ill with cancer, traumatic brain injury, and dementia.

Experience & Qualifications

Dr LaPorta earned one of his two undergraduate degrees at Rutgers University in the Biological Sciences, with a major specialization in Neurobiology and Behavior, and a minor specialization in Environmental Science. He earned his second undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Central Florida, after which he went on to graduate with Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. LaPorta has specialized training and experience working with Sexual Abuse Survivors, Sexual Offenders, and in the field of Behavioral Medicine. He has undergone advanced training at New Mexico State University en route to a post-doctoral Masters degree in Psychopharmacology. Dr. LaPorta completed his APA Accredited Doctoral Psychology internship at Florida State Hospital, and his Post-doctoral Residency at the Palm Beach County School District/45th Street Mental Health Center consortium. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, and APA’s Division 55, and designated as a Qualified Supervisor in the State of Florida to supervise mental health practitioners seeking licensure.
