After 3 or 4 years practicing traditional "western" veterinary medicine, I became frustrated. I felt like I was just a glorified pharmacy and was being given 15 minutes to spend with my patients. I saw so much chronic disease that wasn't being treated at the source. Symptoms were being treated, not the whole animal. I studied and became certified in veterinary acupuncture and continue to pursue chinese medicine. I have a housecall practice that utilizes chinese medicine, homeopathy, nutritional and herbal therapies.I also continue to work part-time in traditional veterinary practices. I see wonderful results in quality of life in so many of my furry patients that receive alternative, or as I prefer to call them, "complementary therapies". A lot of veterinary medicine is listening and advising. That is what I hope to provide here. Just like our human doctors don't seem to have enough time to talk to us, I notice this to be the case in the "regular" practices I work for. People need information so they can play a role in their animals health. Veterinarians are only one piece of the puzzle. Exercise, diet, nutrition and lots of interaction and love are much more important than vaccines and medications for our animals.
