My Expert Service

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY all too frequently presents itself as an enigma to students, thwarting their mastery of the subject, and producing undue frustration in the process. It does not have to be this way. As a matter of fact, it should NOT be this way. Organic Chemistry is intelligible.
What I do is more teaching than tutoring. I am the only seasoned academic PH.D. in San Diego with practical knowledge who utilizes perceptual psychology to tutor both undergraduate and graduate level Organic Chemistry. I firmly believe in reducing the material to the student's level for total comprehension, thereby empowering the student with the key to success.
I have a passion for teaching and tutoring. Empowering the student so the presented material is clearly understood is a specialty. My principle responsibilities are to (1) show the student how to approach Organic Chemistry as a "language"; (2) teach the student problem solving skills; and (3) get the student to the point of becoming independent. I keep things flexible, adaptive, personal when necessary, and prefer to offer real-life applications of the material taught so students can understand the importance of learning the subject.

Experience & Qualifications

EDUCATION
Dr. Joseph Lennox earned his B.A. in Chemistry from La Salle University in Philadelphia, and his Ph.D. in synthetic ORGANIC CHEMISTRY from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (#7 in the USA). He performed investigative studies in Alzheimer's Disease as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in heterocyclic and medicinal chemistry at the University of California - Berkeley (#1 in the USA).
EXPERIENCE
Joseph began tutoring the subjects of Organic and Physical Chemistry while in college. Always having had a passion for teaching, he was presented with an award from UW - Madison for teaching a prototype Organic Chemistry course to nurses and medical technicians. This is something he believes to be one of his biggest accomplishments because it affected the futures of his students who may not have otherwise learned the material.
PHILOSOPHY
Joseph believes that learning is a dynamic process beginning with the student having the proper tools for listening, taking notes, and participating in class. For the tutoring experience to be most effective, it must be dynamic and interactive, with both the student and tutor having properly prepared before each lesson.
STYLE
When students ask Joseph, "What is your style?", he responds, "What style would you like?" His style is adaptive and dynamic, being flexible to suit the needs of the student. As a Training & Development Specialist, he routinely utilizes S.M.A.R.T. (Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely) goals with all his students. He is a congenial professional with excellent listening, coaching, and motivational skills. Most of all, he really enjoys working with people!
