As an experienced and trained counselor working with infertility patients for the past 3o yeras, I understand that experiencing infertility and going through an infertility workup is an emotionally painful experience for a couple. In essence, it is a continual grieving process. Couples can feel isolated, alone and out of control of their lives and feelings. People often describe it as being in "limbo." I am knowledgeable not only about the medical tests and treatments that patients might experience, but the intense emotional impact of the entire process. I have also spent the past 30 years helping couples who are undergoing IVF procedures, egg donor procedures, donor insemination, surrogacy and adoption. I was the founder and director of an adoption agency for many years. As such, I understand that adoption is NOT the answer to infertility, but simply another way of becoming a parent. It does not take away the pain of infertility.
