I know all about the Chicago Style of writing and the subtle nuances that make journalistic and academic writing two different animals. I can edit, come up with headlines, leads and kickers like nobody's business. I know what it takes to move up from a mere staff writer to a full on columnist. Experience & Qualifications |
|
I have worked on the Mount Holyoke News, an independent student newspaper. I started out as a copy editor, tediously crossing out wrong comma usage and moving around paragraphs for better flow and rewriting weak headlines. I wrote one article out of boredom and insomnia for the A&E section about a local band in Massachusetts. Thus, I became a staff writer, receiving acclaim from peers and professors. As one of the strongest writers of the news team, I was given my own column, which was the most popular and well-received. I have received e-mails from parents of students who get subscriptions of the Mount Holyoke News, alumni and professors, praising my ability to write entertaining, smart and witty articles. One of my professors has been Elizabeth Taylor of the Chicago Tribune, who has, on every occasion she's seen me, suggested I continue writing so that I may share the way I see things in the world, and has said on numerous occasions, I have a lot of talent. My articles have been plugged on the front page to increase readership. It is my belief that writing is not an innate trait. It comes with practice and as I have been exercising my skills for an extended period of time, it would be my pleasure to help train those who wish to foster theirs.
