I work with owners, start-up entrepreneurs and senior execs in small businesses on strategy, planning and operations. I started with 3 people, ended with 45 and became part of a $2 billion company. Strategy: I can advise you on whether you have a strategy, whether the one you have fits your goals and culture, and what you need to do to upgrade or develop a strategic plan. Planning: To help you develop a compelling business plan, I use my overall management experience, including board relations, finance, sales/marketing and capital raising to help you articulate your personal goals and integrate them within your strategic thinking and business planning. In today’s fast-moving business world, you need a plan to help you make the right decisions quickly and change direction but stick to your overall strategy. You have to 100%+ “invested” in your business in order to survive. Operations: Without organization and systems, you’re guaranteed to struggle and may not survive. I apply my management skills to help you create systems and attract people you need to run the business while you work “outside the lines“ on building the business.

Experience & Qualifications

Over the past 30 years, I managed nonprofit organizations in health and science, built and sold a business to a multi-billion company, and served as a consultant to small businesses. My expertise includes three levels of experience: during the first, I learned the art of executive management and lobbying while working for a number of associations, and then progressed to become CEO of a health and research science organization. During this period, I earned my law degree and I built the association into a strong domestic and global force with over 100 corporate members that included small businesses and Fortune 500 companies involved in biomedical and industrial research. During the second stage of my “learning”, I teamed up with a colleague to build a fledgling organization that had virtually no revenue, and grew the sales to $8 million through marketing, alliances and acquisitions. During this time, I was involved in raising capital to make several key acquisitions, and I was in charge of sales and marketing to generate revenue from products and services. The largest acquisition doubled the size of the company, launched our web marketing business, and was purchased at a bargain price of 25% of revenue. The third level of my experience is based my marketing and mergers consulting with businesses and my strategy work for nonprofits in the US and Europe. Using my management experience, I helped businesses develop strategy, prepared business plans and found buyers for small companies. I also assisted nonprofit organizations submit successful applications for $10 million in grant and contract funding. I’m currently serving as a consultant to small businesses and nonprofits.
