My Expert Service
I can provide assistance on virtually all aspects of starting or buying, running, or selling a small business. Let me say that having started and run numerous businesses, managing people, meeting payrolls, and watching my every dollar, I understand that decisions must be made without every “t” crossed and “i” dotted. The key is getting results and not be paralyzed by endless analysis. We simply can’t afford it. So my attention is always focused on what works, not necessarily what is optimal.
I can counsel with business owners on successfully managing their lives in the context of their business. This is an important point because running a business can be a very lonely job and owners are constantly threatened by burnout.
Currently I am semi-retired, with about a third of my time devoted to running my e-commerce business. I love working with others and hope I can be of value to those needing some help.

Experience & Qualifications
I have over 40 years’ experience in small business. I have consulted with literally hundreds of small and medium-sized enterprises in planning, operating, marketing, financing, selling and buying, and starting up. For new ventures I have assisted in developing the business plan and marshalling the necessary resources. I have also personally started and operated several businesses in business services, retailing, e-commerce, and manufacturing. In addition, I have taught at the university level undergraduate and graduate business courses in small business, strategic planning, critical thinking, domestic and international marketing, and enterprise management.
After receiving my MBA from Stanford University, I worked for Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Inc. in top management consulting and for 7 years served big and small clients all over the world. Then I started my first business as a retailer in San Francisco and successfully grew it to 3 stores over the next 9 years. I sold the business and returned to consulting with Arthur D. Little, Inc. and then with my own management consulting firm for the next 15 years. I founded a e-commerce business which is still in operation. As a part time adjunct professor I also taught business at a nearby fully accredited university. I served on several professional association Boards of Directors and was a part time Business Development Consultant for the State of Oregon Business Retention Program for several years.
