My Expert Service
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and I focus my work in the arena of how interpersonal communication conflicts and how addictions take it's toll on relationships and how to mend them.I believe that many problems we suffer from (depression, anxiety, loneliness, etc) are environmental, meaning that if you take a good picture of the forces in your environment affecting your daily life, it will be easier to learn how to help yourself to feel less depressed, anxious, or lonely. I have years of experience with both adolescent issues and adult addiction problems. I believe each person holds the answer to their troubles in their own mind - you are the expert of you- I see my role as that of a helper that seeks to help you uncover those answers we haven't accessed yet. In my position at the drug rehab (see "Exp. & Qual.") I worked extensively with men and women struggling with long-term drug/alc problems on an individual basis and counseled them on how it affected their families. Change is not always easy to handle, even when the change is a positive one. I understand those dynamics and would like an opportunity to help you understand what you might expect when you begin making those changes you want to make in your life. As a marriage and family therapist, I have extensive educational training in the matters of relationships, relationship building, ending relationships, dealing with loss of relationships, communication issues, and how our other relationships affect our intimate ones.

Experience & Qualifications
I was the director of a large residential drug and alcohol program for over a year. I teach at a local junior college in their Alcohol and other drug counseling program and at a local private university in their undergrad psych dept. My private practice is built on clients referred to me from the local county child welfare services agency and various employee assistance programs. I am a couple of months away from completing my doctorate in Psychology/Marriage and Family Therapy and am soon to be published in a textbook on substance abuse in special populations in which I authored a chapter on dual diagnosis treatment methods. Leading up to my current positions, I have spent a few years working with adolescent in a group home setting, as a therapist at a residential eating disorders clinic, and as a treatment team supervisor at an agency which treats the long term severely mentally ill persons. My specialty is substance abuse/dependence, but I am qualified and have vast experience in the areas mentioned above.
