Degrees

I have completed a number of courses in quilting techniques and styles. I also have access to other professionals in the field that can assist also, one of whom has had a number of gallery exhibitions in her own name and has several commissions.

My Expert Service

I have been an avid quilter for many years and have created several large bed quilts the majority of which have been hand quilted from machine joined blocks. I had achieved 6 - 7 stitches to the inch. I am also a keen embroiderer, utilising bead work as well as other needle work. I have made a number of dresses and other items of clothing, both casual and formal. This aspect of my sewing has not been as prolific recently due to a work injury. I also make practical items such as winter coats for dogs, curtains and other soft furnishings.

Experience & Qualifications

My experience has been mainly in quilting both in modern and traditional design. I use only organic cotton batting and where possible organic dyed colours for the design and also for the stitching. My style is similar to plain Amish in style, where the hand stitching creates the picture. I have created a large kingsized bed quilt which was set on point with 11" blocks which were all individually hand quilted. The quilt top was machine joined and hand tied. The was a request from the family for their son's wedding. I also have created other varied bed quilts, in marine themes and country colours. I have created smaller quilts which have a significant amount of hand applique and have been hand tied. Due to a work related injury I have had to relearn a new needling technique which works reasonably well and is achieving the lovely small neat stitches which we all enjoy. I have also expanded into fine needlework and have been tutored by a couple of exquisite needleworkers, this has given me inspiration and I'm currently working on a supper cloth with floral ground cover design in the centre and around the edges and I will be due to tackle the tabby coloured cats in the centre - probably using a needle weave technique.
