To me, delivering quality translations is like working on a piece of art.
A translation should never only have the same content, but also the same feeling and deeper meaning as that of the original text... otherwise a translation will never reach the minds of the reader, as was intended by the author.
In order to achieve a successful translation, cultural knowledge about the target language certainly is a must, but it is not everything.. Knowledge about sciences like psychology, sociology and philosophy are equally important at least..
The goal of any translation is to capture the minds of the reader, the same way as it was intended by the author of the original text.
I am a native speaker of German and Turkish and also am proficient in English, although, I do not take any chances and do no translations into English.
