My Expert Service

I am Dr Madhumita Das Mazumdar,MBBS.MD (Obst &Gynae),Consultant Gynaecologist, Brahmaputra Hospitals Limited, Rajgarh, Guwahati, from Assam, India. I obtained my MBBS degree in 1987 and my MD degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1992 from the Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati. I have had a brilliant academic career having obtained positions and distinctions in all the examinations. I worked as a Senior Gynaecologist at the Marwari Maternity Hospital an 80 -bedded charitable private hospital from 21st April, 1993 till 8th October, 2002 immediately after obtaining my MD (Obst & Gynae)degree in 1992. During the more than nine years of my service at the Marwari Maternity Hospital, I have managed different types of obstetric and gynaecological cases independently. I have performed almost all the major obstetrical and gynaecological operations. I have regularly carried out laparoscopy surgeries, both diagnostic and operative. I have dealt with different cases of infertility and managed them successfully. I have handled all modern gynaecological procedures related to infertility like IUI and hysteroscopic surgeries. I also have expertise in obstetrical and gynaecological ultrasonography including TVS. My years as a specialist in Sexual and Reproductive Health has given me wide experience in encouraging the people in the use of family planning methods and the management of the various fears and phobias associated with them. I have learnt how to encourage women to come forward for proper and regular antenatal and postnatal care. I have also learnt how to gain the confidence of women of different cultures and communities in managing gender issues. I have attended different conferences, seminars and workshops both inside the country as well as in the international forum. I was invited to deliver a lecture on my research project, “The Quest for a Male Child” at the International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES12) held at Ottawa, Canada from 27th -31st of July, 2002. My paper on the issue of gender selection, female foeticide and infanticide was highly appreciated and I was the only person from Asia selected to be on the panel discussion on “World Views on Women” at the same conference. The entire trip was totally sponsored by the ICWES organization. Since my profession as a gynaecologist is pretty stressful, I relax by logging onto the internet and surfing the virtual space. I typically spend at least two hours every day in front of my PC. I love to pick up uncommon words and odd bits of information from newspapers and magazines and ferret out everything I can about them from the internet. I approach my self given task with the zeal of an enthusiastic treasure hunter. I have even used Meta Search Engines when necessary. I also love to read. I read all types of books – classics, romances, thrillers, horrors. Books based on psychiatry are my favourites. I have specially enjoyed ‘I never promised you a rose garden’, by Hannah Brown. I am also interested in books which have philosophy as their background like ‘The Alchemist,’ by Paulo Coelho and books by Krishnamurthy. I try and read all the books which have won awards or which have been shortlisted for an award. I have researched the recent Iraq war of 2003 intensively and have written a tale of fiction based on it. Now I am on my second book which is a psychological thriller of a woman suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I have also written a number of articles, mainly on my professional subject - Obstetrics and Gynaecology – which have been published in local newspapers.
