Degrees

MA, BA Psychology, honors in all academic degrees, Licensed as a Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counselor for 25 years. Certified in Mental Health and Gerontological Counseling by the National Board of Counselor Certification. Certified as a Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification. Member of the International Society of Mental Health Online.

My Expert Service

I help people adjust to retirement. Sometimes this means dealing with depression, anger, anxiety, and stress. All are common in today's economic environment. This is not to say that retirement is not fun for many. I am trained as a Rehabilitation Counselor and qualified as a career counselor. I help people identify new directions and find volunteer jobs that match their interests and potential. I also work with frail elders and support their families. When appropriate I arranged services that enabled people to stay in their homes. In other other circumstances I helped make arrangements for assisted living or nursing home placement. I have served as an ad litem for probate court, making recommendations about the need for guardianship and the suitability of those petitioning for that responsibility.

Experience & Qualifications

I provided counseling outreach while at a community mental health clinic and am knowledgable about all types of mental illness including depression, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders. I served as a Guardian ad litem for the Probate Court system, assessing the competency of persons with dementia and mental health issues. I worked with older adults and their families and caregivers. I counseled disabled high school students and helped them transition from a sheltered school environment. While under a contract with Vocational Rehabilitation, I evaluated students with learning disabilities who were graduating from high school to determine their need for assistive technology in higher education. At Project Aids I counseled people with HIV/AIDS. Prior to earning an MA, I worked as a Social Case Worker for Families with Children and with the Work Incentive Program.
