Counseling is sometimes the scariest thing in the world. People often feel like counseling is going to change the way that they think about things, and the truth is...if deep down you are having some doubt this may be true. Counseling is NOT about persuading you to do something that you disagree with or feel morally different about. Counseling is NOT about judging you. Counseling is NOT about giving advice. Finally, Counseling is NOT about waving a magic wand and "fixing things". Counseling IS all about you talking through the problems that you face, having someone reframe it for you (have you look at it differently) and allow you to form your own opinions and have the confidence to carry out the actions that you see fit.It is important to know that an effective counseling relationship allows you to share your feelings--good or bad in a safe environment and find the tools within yourself to solve your own problems!
I would be honored for you to select me to begin this journey with you.

Experience & Qualifications
I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) degree in May of 2002. At that time, I moved to attend WVU and I obtained my Master of Science dgree (Rehabiliation Counseling) in May of 2004. I obtained my national credential as a Certified Rehabiliation Counselor and eventually became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of WV. I see a wide range of clientele including children--as young as two, adults, groups, and families. We work on the whole gambit of problems. I may see a family working on a young child's behavior problems, a couple working through marital indescretions, an individual with bipolar struggling to stay employed, or a mother working through stress at home. I have experience with the following issues: autism, biploar, depression, anxiety, phobias, behavioral concerns, sensory integration, suicidality, grief, disabilities (including developmental), career concerns, PTSD, communication breakdowns, anger issues, self-esteem concerns, family memebers of those who are addicted to illegal or illicit drugs, codependency...basically you name it and I have worked with it. I tend to believe that I am an eclectic therapist. This means that I use a variety of techniques/interventions from several schools of psychology. I rely heavily on Carl Rogers' belief that the therapeutic relationship is vital. I also use many strategies from play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and occasionally reality therapy.Professionally, I have presented at the WV Early Childhood Conference and I was appointed by the govenor to the WV Eearly Intervention Interacency Coordinating Council. I pride myself on working with you as a member of your team. I am a firm believer that together we can work through just about anything! I feel that it is of the utmost importance that you are comfortable with the person providing you therapy--and it is my job to make you find that comfort level with me. I try hard to keep things informal and am always open to your input. I look forward to meeting with you (and your family)!Feel free to drop me a line to ask any questions or express concerns.
