As a clinical social worker I have seen parents and children in my private practice, in mental health settings and in the school system for many years. I believe I have seen almost every type of issue that children and their parents face. Children are being diagnosed with a number of problems, among then Pervasive Development Disorder, anxiety, depression, Attention Deficit Disorder, Obsessive Compulsion Disorder, and anxiety amongst other things. What does this all mean? I feel it is important to understand what these words mean and how it effects children and their families. What are the options for treatment? What can parents expect both in the short and long term? I can help them in school and in social settings? The most important thing to remember is that most problems have solutions, just sometimes, the solution is one you haven't thought of. Children all develop at a different rate, in different ways. Parents have different styles. Together we can work towards that solution. There is always hope!
