My Expert Service
|
|
Sometimes the barriers stem from a lack of opportunity, at other times they are critical voices in our heads from our past. As a former women's self-defense instructor, I bring to my therapeutic work a myriad of practical experiences and techniques that can help people grow in confidence and self-worth. I have been working as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in a private practice setting for 10 years. I value a high standard of ethics and cultural sensitivity in my work.
My therapeutic style is approachable, interactive and client centered. I enjoy working collaboratively with individuals and couples to develop a course of therapy suited to each persons unique circumstances.
Due to the licensing requirements of the state of CA, I can only accept clients who are residents of CA. Thank You.

Experience & Qualifications
|
|
I have worked extensively with individuals, couples and the LGBT community and their families. As a former women's self-defense instructor, I bring to my work an understanding of the issues of violence, harassment and abuse that women can face in their everyday lives as well as knowledge about possible solutions. My style is interactive and straightforward. I have done both brief therapy as well as longer term work.
I have a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from New College of California, located in San Francisco, with an emphasis on Feminist Psychology and Social Justice. I also have an MA in Anthropology from Stanford University with a focus on cross cultural adaptation and identity formation.
I have a particular interest in working with cultural outsiders or the cultural homeless. This can include anyone who has moved or traveled frequently in their lives ('Global Nomads' or 'Third Culture Kids'). You may be from a military or international business background, peace corp, missionary family or have immigrated to the US within two generations. You may be multiracial, bisexual, from a working class background living in a middle class environment, have a hidden disability, a terminal illness, or have struggled with infertility. If you have ever felt that you live on the borders between different cultures and do not really belong anywhere, I'd be interested in talking to you about your experience.
I have experience working with grief and loss, self-esteem and assertiveness, anger, depression, LGBTQ issues, infertility, parenting, and all forms of child abuse. I have also worked with individuals affected by substance abuse and with issues of migration and cross cultural adaptation. I will be happy to speak with you further about my work, answer any questions you may have about therapy, or simply help you find the right therapist for you. Good luck on your search and remember, it's your therapy, don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions.
Give me a call. I look forward to speaking with you
