My Expert Service
I help people focus on solutions instead of problems by exploring strengths and available resources, and building on them. Often this involves a better acceptance of one's self and/ or situation. Sometimes it involves finding different ways of thinking that then effect emotions and actions.
Gaining a better understanding of typical human reactions, and the ways in which they vary can also help. Occasionally, looking at perceptions about the past, and finding ways to think differently about historical or future events is called for.
Our culture teaches people to feel bad about themselves in many ways. When people have characteristics that are not typical, they often learn to become ashamed or develop intolerance with others. They may reject differences, instead of gaining acceptance and finding functional coping strategies. This problem focus can actually increase suffering unnecessarily.
