Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Master of Science in Counseling - Marriage and Family

My Expert Service

I am a caring and competent Marriage and Family Therapist who has over 10 years of experience in helping individuals and families to overcome their barriers to health and happiness. Over the years, I have gained training and experience in crisis intervention, substance abuse in families and in offenders, marital relations, mental health counseling, including the depressive disorders, and women's issues. I have an ability to connect with my clients and listen in a non-judgemental way, but also be firm and make sure they understand the implications of information that I am giving them. I believe that all people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity and I practice this belief in my daily life.

Experience & Qualifications

I have over 10 years experience in the counseling field. I was a women's issues program coordinator for 4 years in a large metropolitan area. This experience has helped me to undertand the complexity of the depressive disorders and how treating people with comfort and care will help them to overcome their disorder and live the healthy life they want. During this time I became trained as a substance abuse counselor and worked with many families referred from Child and Family Services. I am also experienced in Crisis Intervention counseling and Crisis Management and Debriefing and worked with victims of 9/11 in New York City, as well as family members and victims of violent crime. For four years I worked closely with law enforcement and probation/parole as a drug court coordinator and the Justice Treatment Systems Specialist for the Nebraska Supreme Court. These positions enabled me to work with offenders and their families in the areas of susbtance abuse and its effects on families. During this same time frame, I began seeing clients in a private practice in order to work with couples and families without substance abuse issues and have enjoyed seeing people process and progress through their problems. For the past 2 years I have been the clinical director at a large residential treatment facility that serves clients with both substance abuse disorders and mental health issues, as well as seeing families and helping them understand the counseling and recovery process. I currently hold 4 licenses to practice in 2 different states.
