As a policeman, and later as a social worker in the community, many of the couples I encountered had problems of physical and/or verbal violence.
Sometimes the solution was drastic, such as removing the perpetrator from the equation, but some couples reacted to therapy - and re-establised a healthy relationship.

Social worker in various geriatric-work positions.
