My Expert Service

Professional, competent, compassionate premarital counseling, couple counseling and marital therapy have been provided for 20+ years. Psychosexual counseling is a frequent component of these modalities. This can be done with the couple together, in individual meetings with members of the couple and in a combination of the 2. I have also facilitated psychoeducational groups dealing with cycles of conflict in relationships, cycle of violence and domestic violence in general. Disatisfaction in a couple's sexual relationship sometimes triggers altercations which lead to domestic violence situation. Alternatively, engaging in sex is often used as a couple's way of reconciling after a domestic violence incident has occurred. This can maintain the cycle of conflict as the underlying issue is not addressed. When the sexual relationship in a marriage or an intimate relationship is not working well, there are often rippling effects into other areas of the relationship. Sex is an integral part of intimate relationships and problems in that area should be addressed as soon as possible, while they remain manageable. *** Please note that I am not a certified sex therapist!

Experience & Qualifications

SEX THERAPY: We all know that we all think a lot about sex. Although done privately, we all know that almost all adults engage in some form of sexual activity. When a sexual relationship is good, a couple experiences the ultimate gift of mutual sharing between 2 people who love one another. Issues about sexual relationships typically emerge during couple counseling, individual relationship counseling or marital therapy. Problems can arise in the sexual relationship as a function of emotional and/or physical problems of one and/or both members of the couple. Among the problems I have counseled couples on with regard to their sexual relationships are the following: -The use of sex as a means of power and control in a relationship. -When the desired frequency of engaging in sexual relations is a large difference between members of a couple. -When there is suspicion of infidelity in the relationship and the negative impact that such mistrust has on the relationship. -When one person's sex drive is particularly low, determining possible causes and treatment options. -Male sexual dysfunctions, primarily erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation - assessing likely cause and evaluating and implementing treatment options. -Female sexual arousal disorder - assessing various causes such as hormonal, unresolved conflicts in relationship, possible relationship to a medical condition or medication, etc. Implementing a treatment plan based on the assessment findings. This is not an all inclusive list. There are other recognized disorders in this diagnostic category of the DSM-IV which can be addressed.
