Experience & Qualifications

|
I have worked in the field of counseling for 22 years. I began as a financial counselor working for a savings and loan association meeting individuals financial counseling needs. I then went on to formal training from a Christian perspective at a seminary where I simultaneously worked sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with individuals uplifting their spirits through the Love of Christ. I had been in the pulpit since I was 11 years old as a lay minister. I became an ordained minster of the Gospel which transforms lives wherever it finds people.... from poverty, to prison from college to corporate America. I then continued my studies and my work on black college campuses and the surrounding communities focusing on career development of individuals as they molded and shaped new lives through education. I became a community counselor and took that knowledge to work with at risk youth and their families focusing on changing individuals outlook of themselves through "the renewing of their minds" with educational, spiritual and judicial means.
I then continued my studies and work in the Atlanta University Center. I studied the value of positive mentoring in building the self esteem and new personas of individuals through Spirituality and Positive Influence. I became a Licensed Professional Counselor utilizing professional practices of mental health counseling and performing group and individual counseling. I performed workshops for families on personal change and growth and helped individuals and couples to continue to change through Wellness. I continue to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the local church. I currenlty teach counseling full time at a public graduate school of counseling. I continue to meet with groups and individuals and in the classroom focus on theoretical foundations of the field of counseling, Albert Ellis, Carl Rogers, Sigmund Freud, Donald Super, Victor Frankl, Carol Gilligan, Irving Yalom, Rollo May, Carl Jung, Paul Tillich, Alfred Adler, Maxie Maultsby, Robert Wubbolding,as well as Asa Hilliard, Na'im Akbar,Chiek Antwan Diop and Daudi Azibo. I maintain that there is certainly a continuum from Chrisitanity to Counseling Psychology.
I understand that I can serve individuals and groups quite effectively who would like to improve their self esteem without proseletyzing them. Each person has a right to autonomy.
