Dreams became more than just a passing interest almost a decade ago, circa 1997. After months of sweat-inducing anxiety dreams coupled with nightmares, I opted for understanding over insomnia. I began researching ways to control my dream experience and I successfully conquered my nocturnal demons within a few weeks. Taking that basic knowledge a step further, I undertook studies in Jungian and Freudian dream theories while completing a psychology degree and working as a research assistant for a team of sleep researchers. The results I saw from lucid dreaming, interpreting symbols, and applying what I discovered to my every day life led me to share my success story with friends and acquaintances. One interpretation led to another and I began analyzing dreams on an informal basis. What struck me most was how different each person was who approached me. From varying generational, ethnic and religious backgrounds, they all shared a similar longing: to understand what they were dreaming and why.
I continued furthering my passion for dreams as a 2004-05 volunteer staff member at www.spiritualsouls.co.uk. A web community offering spiritual counseling, grief support, and development classes, I donated 10-20 hours of my time per week to answer questions on a wide array of spiritual topics as well as offer live grief support to those in need. Frequently counseling chat room visitors on how to make sense of and improve their dream experience, it was my favorite part of the job.
