Responsibility: Day-to-day running of a $75 Million sales and rental downhole tool business.
Position Objective: Integrate and consolidate the recent Canadian BlackMax (NQL) acquisition into National Oilwell Varco.
Position Accomplishments to date:
• Integrated two large organizations in two different locations with different product lines and cultures into one location to take advantage of the synergies that one group has to offer the market place.
• Expanded the remaining two locations in Grande Prairie and Estevan to start servicing existing NOV sales and rental products and new sales and rental products in their respective areas.
• Created a new management team to take the integrated business forward with a view to growing the business from $75 Million to $175 Million in three years.
• Focused the business on rental agreements as opposed to sales in order to continue growing the business and looked at new and unique ways to achieve this.
• Involved with the Progressive Technology acquisition and integration into NOV.
• Continued on with implementing JDE One World following a recent implementation in Canada.
Director, UK Operations, [April 2006 – March 07].
Responsibility: Day-to-day running of a sales and rental tool business in Aberdeen, Scotland, U.K.
Position Objective: Take a flat revenue based business and grow both sales and rentals product streams.
Position Accomplishments:
• Increased rental revenues on Average in Q1, 2006 from $400k USD to $1,000k by Q4, 2006.
• Increased overall revenues from $1,000 - $1,200k to just under $3,000k per month in 15 months.
• Changed the focus of the sales team from an inside sales function to a true Business Development Team.
• Increased the focus on the business processes within the group in order to drive internal efficiencies.
• Increased the number of employees from 20 to 37 in order to cope with the additional demand placed on the organization.
• Developed web based programs to aid in the Business Development function.
• Implemented JDE One World within the Aberdeen Division.
Smith International – May 2004 – March 2006
Regional Manager – Completion Systems.
Responsibility: Day-to-day running of a completions systems company.
Position Objective: Develop a $30 Million business generating 25% EBIT in three years.
Position Accomplishments:
• Increased revenue and EBIT in 2005 over 2004 by 42% (to $15 MM) and 259% (to 23%) respectively.
• Increased the number of operating districts from four to seven within 18 months through organic growth and inorganic growth.
• Generated the first bottom up budget for 2005 that included a 25% increase in revenue and a 15% increase in EBIT.
• Focused on and reduced receivables by over $1 Million within six months.
• Focused on and reduced selling expense by over five percent to 10% of revenue within seven months.
Precision Drilling – March 2001 – May 2004
General Manager, [March 2003 – May 2004].
Responsibility: Day-to-day running of a $26 Million engineering, manufacturing and operations company.
Position Objective: Financially turn around the company in order to become profitable.
Position Accomplishments:
• Increased international sales revenue from $43k to just under $3,500k in nine months by restructuring Polar Completions within Precision Drilling’s international infrastructure.
• After three months of financial clean-up, made on average 18% EBITDA from July – December 2003. July 2003 was the first time the company had made a profit in 18 months.
• Introduced agents, distributors and consultants for short- to mid-term growth as opposed to increasing headcount or international infrastructure.
