Aside from working for both large and small companies, from the bottom rung of the ladder to the top, as an employee, sub-contractor and consultant, I have also owned businesses. My educational experience is in business, real estate and technology. I have owned or been in the management capacity in Real estate, transportation, security/executive protection, risk assessment/management/mitigation, e-commerce, the adult internet industry, web design, tourism, hospitality management, Bars/restaurants/night clubs, property inspections(commercial and residential), and Internet Marketing. I have been self employed in some aspect of a family business, or on my own, since the age of 14, which brings almost 30 years of business experience to your doorstep. At age 14 I was managing family owned high end ice cream stores in Avalon NJ, and I was working 16 hours a day during the summer supervising college age staff. During the Holiday seasons I helped manage some retail establishments that were also family owned where I started to hone my skills in merchandizing, sales and people. Upon graduating High school, I went to work for the government as a subcontractor in the security industry. It didn't take long for me to start moonlighting by opening a security/executive protection company that I quickly grew to a $200,000/yr operation. The performance of my duties not only included marketing my services and general business but hiring and supervising a staff or 8-16 people, training, setting up complex security operations, protecting various executives and VIP's, corporate espionage and counter intelligence as well as the mundane day to day activities of filling in where necessary to ensure success. After five years of operation I sold this business and moved on. At this point, I went into the nightclub/bar restaurant, hospitality management, and tourism industry, quickly moving into management positions. Once I felt I had a handle on the business side of these industries I started consulting for nightclubs/bars and restaurants that were in financial trouble. I was the troubleshooter that would come in and take over operations to make the business profitable so owners could get out with some level of comfort. I still perform this service today, almost 20 years after I started it, and I only rely on word of mouth advertising. In performance of these consultations I do complete business assessments, risk management assessments, management assessments, employee spot checking, budgetary and expense assessments and inventory assessments. Then I compose a complete plan of action and put it to work taking over all aspects of the business operations in both consultation roles and working roles. In the last 10 years I have also owned a limousine service where I have provided driving and executive protection services to various stars and VIPS, aside from running the business. I have also owned a web design company that I personally worked to learn all aspects of the business including design, branding, marketing, e-commerce, the adult internet industry, membership sites and various laws and regulations pertaining to Internet businesses. I worked for a lobbying firm for realtors as a director of IT, and then I moved on to obtaining my real estate license and built a practice that grossed over $80,000 in commissions the first year. When the real estate bust occurred, I purchased a bar/restaurant (I have owned several in some capacity over the last 20 years, but this was my pet project). I took this bar from operating in the red to operating in the black and sold it within 8 months. Once the bar was sold I went into the property inspection industry, owning my own inspection company. I still own this company today. In addition I also own an Internet marketing company, and I am a partner/owner of a non-profit organization that fights to preserve Civil and human rights. I operate two online columns, and write under my own name and some pseudonyms. My work can be found at ehow.com, buckisa.com and newsvine.com.
