I have been a design draftsman for 7 year and have been recently asked to become an independent contract / freelance employee. I have worked contract work through a company in Toledo Ohio but now have been asked to become completely independent. All employers of mine have been very happy with my work. They all have expressed that they would love to keep me full time but with sometimes-large periods of time between contracts, they can not economically keep me busy until the next project. Like my last employer who kept me six months delivering material because there was no work for me to do in the office but when he could not afford to keep me any longer he laid me off. His construction company has received a new project and has asked if I would consider working with them again but as a freelance employee. Therefore, I am now looking to expand my potential opportunities with other companies that would be interested in working with a telecommuting draftsman.
I can do a more efficient job from home because I have invested in a computer system that can handle the load AutoCAD can put on a computer. Plus I can work more then eight hours a day and not restricted by company hours. There for I can offer my customers the opportunity to use my services when an unforeseen shortage of help comes along and a project is left hanging in the balance. I can work as an onsite employee for short periods of time and my wages are very competitive both of which are negotiable.
If you just need a group of drawings taken from a customers standards to your own in a very short period of time I can offer that service. I have worked mostly with redline drawings and taken old hand drawings and put them on computer for many companies. Converting old hand drawings and changing standards for groups of drawings I have charge per drawing by size. Presently I am using AutoCAD R.14 and have used mechanical desktop. I am looking in the near future at buying mechanical desktop and 3d-studio max.
