My Expert Service

Having worked for many years running programs which address underachievement and low motivation for people in crisis or transition, I have learned that one of the first things to go is a person's belief in themselves as a problem-solver. Often, they will underestimate their abilities and discount their own resources. Poor self-esteem is only one result. In this way, many times problems will accumulate with the tendency being that the person is likely to develop negative thinking that compounds their problems and ultimately, causes them to withdraw.
In these cases, I will first help the person clearly state their problems and prioritize them. Next, we develop a strategic plan tailored to their needs with short and longer-term goals. Then, I will offer follow-up and support. With proper focus, this can happen in a short period of time.

Experience & Qualifications
|
|
For thirty years, I have worked with people living on or just off the streets in midtown Manhattan. As well, I have helped others in crisis, who are suffering from temporary setbacks, or who have been unable to overcome past trauma, with some of the more extreme outcomes being substance abuse, mental illness, criminal justice issues and shattered family relations.
I worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital as an Assistant Professor of Psychology, a hospital psychologist running an outpatient mental health program, and for private non profits, as an Executive Director. I have been in private practice as well as in the public sector in a community clinic setting.
