My Expert Service

The client can expect a solution focused with a brief cognitive behavioral orientation in the therapeutic environment. My approach is proactive and directive. I'm passionate about what I do and believe that solutions are always possible! I enjoy assisting clients resolve their own problems. Through a self-discovery process, the client owns the solution, which enhances therapeutic success. The client will examine perceptions and attitudes related to the issues. Blame is counterproductive and is never assigned. Solutions can emerge very quickly. Yet, some problems require managing rather than resolution. Clients are taught sophisticated coping strategies to better manage sometimes "unfixable" stressors. The client is encouraged to set specific objectives and goals generally by the end of the first session. I use a brief therapy model, which I define as finding the solution as expeditiously as possible. Within the therapeutic milieu, the client is also asked to identify the values that he/she expouses. Those values are then used to fortify other areas of the clients' functioning. An individual's personal morality sometimes lies dormant, when frequently personal ethics and principles can be used as a strength to build upon in all areas of life functioning. It is also vital to explore the client's environment and examine home life dynamics in order to discover environmental strenghts within the client's system.

Experience & Qualifications

My experience is broad, and I enjoy working in many areas of my mental health field of expertise. I serve as Executive Director of Progressive Counseling and Treatment Service, Inc. Since assuming this post seven years ago, I have scheduled over two thousand appointments and have extensive experience in relationships between spouses and parent/ child conflict. In addition, I serve as a professional mediator, in various types conflict resolution. Moreover, I possess critical incidence training. In that capacity, I was dispatched immediately following 9/11 to Washington DC, where I served as a critical incidence counselor to company executives who were affected by or who witnessed the airliner hit the Pentagon in 2001. Some of the companies served after 9/11 included Verzion, American Airlines, and SunTrust Bank, which is geographically adjacent to the White House. I was employed as a family therapist for the Carroll County Youth Service Bureau in the Family Preservation Unit, overseeing two cases at a time. In this special unit, the therapist serves the family onsite. The purpose is to fortify and strengthen the family structure, in other words keeping the family together. Over the course of the last five years, I have served as a professional volunteer in the role of a trauma therapist at the Carroll County Detention Center in Carroll County Maryland and at the Helping Up Mission in Baltimore City, Maryland, which is a substance abuse rehab for men. Last year, I started a non-profit corporation called Holy Trinity Rehabilitation Center, Inc. a spiritual recovery program for men suffering with substance abuse in Baltimore City, Maryland. In that capacity, I serve as Executive Director and Chairman of the Board. Highlights of my general experience at Progressive Counseling include specific family problems entailing emotional stress, family conflict, adoption adjustment; marital problems including struggles with nuclear, blended, or single parent family models; young adult concerns including general parent teen challenges, dating, college adjustment, peer relationships, social skills, teen pregnancy and early parenthood; general conflict resolution; health related issues including chronic illness and pain management; depression and suicidal ideation; grief and loss; career issues including job loss, job stress, work environment, conflict resolution, and career counseling.
