I am not an Avian Veterinarian. I hold no degrees or certifications in Aviculture or Ornithology. I do, however, have extensive hands-on experience in rescue, rehabilitation, breeding and raising Cockatiels.

Cockatiels are perhaps the easiest parrots to maintain, especially for beginners. However, these intelligent birds do have proper care requirements and being a rescue worker I've seen many in very poor conditions. Get the best advice on proper care, housing, diet, veterinary emergencies, breeding and other management practices so you can provide your feathered friend with the very best from the start.

Experience & Qualifications

I have experience in rescue, rehabilitation and raising Cockatiels. I currently have 17 Cockatiels in my personal flock among other parrot members. I have cared for and rehabilitated/treated Cockatiels with nutritional deficiencies, diabetes, injuries, egg binding, and many other issues related to either diet and/or environment. I have successfully assisted in helping cage bound and grounded Cockatiels regain confidence by helping them re-learn to fly and become healthier, happier, more socially balanced flock members. I have tamed wild and semi-wild Cockatiels and with a combination of exercise and diet therapy have helped correct negative behaviors related to illness or environment. I spend on average between 8-10 hours each day with my flock, all of whom are fully flighted and in perfect feather and excellent health. I also make my own bird food and bird safe toys and will be happy to share tips and tricks with you as well. Please note that none of my advice is a substitute for the advice of a licensed Avian Veterinarian, especially in the event of a medical emergency. If you feel your Cockatiel is in need of medical attention, don't call me-go straight to your Avian Veterinarian!
