COMPBENEFITS CORP. – Atlanta, GA 1996 – 2008
A leading full-service multi-state ancillary benefits insurer providing dental and vision benefit plans to 5M+ members. Approximately 750 employees 20+ locations at present and has exceeded 1500 employees 75+ locations during certain phases. CompBenefits was acquired by Humana in 2007.
Initially retained as a consultant to bridge transition during hiring of a replacement for the Human Resource Director. Within 6 months converted to the Director position. Promoted to Vice President after first year of employment.
Vice President Human Resources
• Built and managed Human Resources department, including hiring staff and developing policies and procedures. Team consisted of 2 Directors, 3 Managers and 5 support staff.
• Responsible for moving the payroll function from Finance to Human Resources and converting from out-sourced system to in-house UltiPro system. Initiated first integrated HRIS system.
• Established the Organizational Development program. Championed its growth and budgetary increases annually. Produced the company’s first management meeting and its Leadership Circle designed for high potentials within the organization. Involved with all aspects of OD across the organization including technology and sales.
• Responsible for integrating numerous acquisitions, including one of equal size in multiple locations and one in a new business segment, located in 24 office locations in a multi-state area.
• Managed the complete HR needs for approximately 57 private dental offices in 10 different states.
• Participated in the successful divestiture of the related business segment to different purchasers including termination of a related 401(k) plan and distribution of said assets.
• Acquisition related activities included due diligence review and recommendations, integration planning, merging 401(k) plans and converting payroll, policies and benefits.
• Established the company’s first FSA, Dependant Care accounts and instituted the first high deductible health care plan.
• Developed and implemented a recruiting plan for the organization consolidated in human resources. Hired staff for the recruiting function, over saw the process, including establishing employee skills testing, criminal background checking process, manager interviewing training, and targeted selection implemented throughout the organization. Researched and implemented an online recruiting system and successfully converted to that format.
• Championed a revitalization of the Management Incentive Compensation program. Established annual published goals and identified parameters for successful bonus awards.
• Initiated the company’s Federal Affirmative Action Plan and maintained responsibility for education training and annual compliance for the program.
• Further responsibilities include annual policy review and development, non-management incentive plans, all employee relations functions.
