Chef Kathy Jones began her career in the restaurant business when she was 14 at the Chez
Rondelet, on Sanibel Island, Florida. Her first position was as a busser, then she moved into the kitchen as a seafood prep cook. By the time she was 16, she was sous chef with four original recipes on the menu. At the age of 18, she entered Florida State University and completed her bachelor degree in Humanities in two years. During her vacations and breaks, she returned to the Chez Rondelet. In 1979, she attended the Culinary Institute of America for an eight week study program. Chef Kathy has always had a passion for cooking, since the age of 5, when she would help prepare food and beverages for her grandparent’s dinner parties. Culinary skills have come natural to her, and most of her abilities are self-taught. Kathy’s step-dad was a charter boat captain, and she has always been around fresh seafood and has had a love for creating
recipes that bring out the best flavors and textures in fresh seafood.
Kathy has traveled the country as a consultant opening various types of restaurants. She is a member of the American Culinary Federation, American Personal and Private Chefs Association and is Serve Safe Certified.
Chef Kathy and her partners have owned Island Café, Coconut Cove Caribbean Bistro and
Decadent By Design Café. In all of these locations, Kathy completed build outs and renovations, kitchen design, dining room design and all facets from inception to completion.
When Kathy was not in the restaurant industry, her time was spent in promotions and advertising. Kathy worked with the Hoosier Lottery, Wish TV 8 and WFBQ – Q-95 radio on the inaugural Taste of Indy and other projects. Kathy was also the national promotions director of Media Play and arranged and facilitated several book signings, CD release parties and various other celebrity events.
Chef Kathy was nominated and participated in Second Helping's Ultimate Chef Competition in 2005 and 2006. Chef Kathy also competed in the 2005 Souper Bowl and won in the category of Specialty Soups.
