My Expert Service
I first certified as a Substance Abuse Counselor in 1992. I earned my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology in the mid-90s. Most of my work has been with indigent and disenfranchised populations – I have worked with parolees in Kansas; homeless people in Las Vegas, NV; inmates in Arkansas; and homeless people living with HIV/AIDS in New York City. I have also been on my own personal journey of recovery for almost 20 years now. In addition to my recovery from alcohol and drugs, I quit smoking cigarettes several years ago and have since completed three New York City Marathons.
I believe in meeting people where they are at and helping them define what their recovery goals are. Even though abstinence is often the best course for alcoholics and addicts, it is not the only option. With professional guidance, every individual has the right to define that for him or herself. I realize that traditional 12-Step recovery methodologies are not for everyone and that Harm Reduction is a viable option.
