I am a registered respiratory therapist. I have been working in the field since 1982 and am well versed in many areas of respiratory illnesses and chronic respiratory difficulties. Not only have I studied respiratory for many years, but I have also had to be the recipient of respiratory care. As a young child I suffered chronic status asthmaticus and felt the best way to help myself would to be to go to school and become a respiratory therapist thus enabling me to help others. I have been on both sides of a ventilator. I have been the one connected to the ventilator and the one managing the ventilator for a ventilator dependent patient. So, I understand the emotional aspects as well of being unable to do what seems the most simplest of tasks, breathing. Being connected to a ventilator breathing for you is a very surreal and frightening experience and one that most people will never forget. I have been on a ventilator some 15 times now and it never gets any easier, but it has been about 3 years since I have had to be on so am feeling more confident in my ability to manage my disease before it completely takes over me.

I have worked in a hospital since 1982. I have recently had to take a hiatus due to an automobile accident,but am eagerly awaiing my return. I am proficient in the areas of adult ICU care, neonatal, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and routine respiratory care including oxygen therapy, respiratory evaluations, blood gas sampling and interpretation,chest percussion, breath sound analysis, and counseling patients on their lung disease. I also ran an asthma support program
