My Expert Service
|
|
I have worked with Unix before there was a World Wide Web, and have experience in all aspects of systems administration.
Over the years I have worked with open source and commercial linux and unix operating systems, and their associated software.
My skills were first concentrated on the core TCP/IP services offered in most operating systems, e.g. mail/smtp, http/httpd, dns/named, etc.
The core tasks of a system administrator are many, and I have over the years built a solid foundation of both skills and experience in:
* Operating Systems: Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, other UNIX (SCO, AIX).
* Linux expertise (Slackware, RedHat, SUSE): installation/configuration,
system administration, shell scripting, system security (firewalls, VPN, ssh).
configuration/patching, multi-boot systems, user/group management,
package management, open source software, GNU tools.
* Embedded Linux: MontaVista/HardHat, customized systems/rootfs, cross-compilation,
MTD, cramfs, diskless/headless systems, remote boot (BOOTP/DHCP/TFTP/NFS-root).
* UNIX/Linux system programming: client/server, OOD/OOP, sockets, IPC, signals,
shared memory, X-Window, GUI, multi-threaded programming (POSIX threads),
cross-platform development, debugging.
* Programming languages: C/C++, shell (ksh/bash/sh), sed/awk, Perl, Assembler.
* Development tools: GNU tools (gcc, make), strace, gdb/ddd/kadb/dbx.
* Source code control tools: CVS/SVN, sccs, ClearCase.
* Networking: TCP/IP, HTTP, NNTP, NFS, NIS, DNS, VPN, telnet, ssh, ftp.
* Databases: Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, Netezza.
* Hardware: Intel x86, Sun Sparc.
*Provisioning: systems design & deployment, server builds, cobbler.
*Monitoring: Zabbix, Nagios, Denyhosts
Applications: Installs, patching & troubleshooting
*Backup & Recovery: Backup Exec, Netbackup, HP Dataprotector, Rsync over SSH.
Infrastructure: colocation facility design & build
IP: obtaining public IP blocks
Large scale web infrastructures
