Experience & Qualifications

Liz Young, owner of Liz Young Tours, has been leading culinary walking tours in New York City neighborhoods since 2003, and she has been a fixture in the city's culinary scene since 1995. She is a certified culinary professional (CCP) and began her NYC career as general manager of Foxhounds Restaurant in the World Financial Center. While there, she honed her culinary training at the New York Restaurant School on a full scholarship. She completed her Culinary Arts Certificate with an externship at New York's world-class Aquavit Restaurant, training under Marcus Samuelsson and Nils Noren, now Vice President of Culinary Arts of The French Culinary Institute. To further complement her culinary training, she took a Master's Degree in Food Studies and Food Management from New York University. While working there, she was awarded their celebrated "Outstanding Service Award," and earned an Associate Editor position for the prestigious dietetics practice journal, "Topics in Clinical Nutrition," a role she still holds today. She lead the Institute of Culinary Education's Recreational Division for almost two years. As director there, she was responsible for scheduling and running close to 3,000 classes with over 23,000 registrants per year, the design and implementation of the online registration system (which took over 50% of all programs revenue within the first 9 months of availability), as well as successful cost-control initiatives. Liz has been involved with Spoons Across America and Days of Taste since 2005 with AIWF, an organization co-founded by Julia Child that fosters children's food and culinary programs. As part of this program, Liz leads greenmarket tours for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
