My Expert Service
|
|
I have 21 years of experience as a licensed psychotherapist and many years as a life coach.
Besides being able to help with personal problems, including depression and anxiety,I am particularly skilled in addressing relationship difficulties in marriages, dating, friendships, and the workplace, as well as sexuality issues affecting people of all ages and orientations.
In addition to my training as a psychotherapist and life coach I had a long academic career as a tenured professor of sociology, pioneering and teaching a course in all aspects of human sexuality for more almost 25 years. I have published in academic journals and magazines on a wide variety of topics.
Because of my sociological training and broad knowledge of world cultures I feel particularly able to help people from societies where they feel their problems will either not be sympathized with, understood or handled appropriately.
I recognize that all of us have circumstances that may prevent our totally transforming our lives to match our wishes. However, we need not be prisoners of our past or present constraints and often can make changes even when we feel helpless to do so.
After clarifying a client's situation I primarily use cognitive-behavioral approaches to focus on changing the thoughts, feelings and actions that hinder achieving his or her goals.
I believe a great deal can be accomplished in a very short time if clients are open to thinking and acting in new ways.
After a session I often write follow-up emails,as I don't feel my work complete if I have additional thoughts or suggestions. I also encourage free post-session questions from clients as well as
updates from them on their progress.

honest, open, direct, and refreshingly candid. Dr. Mankoff listened to me and helped me get a lot of things off my chest. His advice was delivered meaningfully, calmly, and with reasoning behind each thought.

We differed but we exchanged ideas. I did not agree with Dr Mankoff's more global view of a matter but it was an interesting dialogue.

He provided me with common-sense advice on how to handle a situation, but didn't address from a psychological perspective what I think are some deeper issues going on with my partner. But in the short time we had, he had sound advice for me on how to handle my immediate problem.
