Mr. McLauchlan’s current practice focuses on procurement of intellectual property related to high-tech electrical-related inventions spanning the spectrum of the electrical engineering related arts.
Mr. McLauchlan's work focuses primarily on drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the U.S.P.T.O., and in providing legal counseling services in matters before the U.S.P.T.O.

Experience & Qualifications

Mr. McLauchlan has worked as outside counsel and in-house as the Chief Patent Counsel.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. McLauchlan worked as a process engineer at Motorola in CVD/CMP, Thin Films and Photo. He also served as a Nuclear Engineer and Submarine Officer in the United States Navy for eight (8) years.
Mr. McLauchlan’s areas of expertise include semiconductor processing, biomedical devices, aeronautics, composite materials, sensor and instrumentation technologies including fiber-optic devices and sensors, semiconductor circuits, wired and wireless communications including various forms of error correction coding and signal processing employed therein, and information storage device technology (e.g., HDDs).
Mr. McLauchlan has prepared and filed over 400 U.S. utility patent applications in the U.S.P.T.O., and he has issued over 100 U.S. patents. Mr. McLauchlan has established many policies and goals for M&S based on his insights from working as an engineer, and as a lawyer in a large law firm, a small patent boutique, and in-house to provide services to corporate clients that are tailored to meet corporate patent needs as the inventor communities are represented before the U.S.P.T.O
