Turtles seem like an easy pet to take care of, but if you have any experience with them you know this is not really true.
There are so many things than can go wrong; even a slight change in the water chemistry can throw off your turtle's balance and make him/her sick. Babies are extremely sensitive and that is the reason why their death rate is so high. A cold gust of air can lead to a respiratory infection and sometimes death.
Despite the great risk of getting sick as babies, once a turtle is about a year old you're pretty much out of the "danger zone".
Many people never planned to become aquatic turtle keepers but get surprise birthday or Christmas presents. Sometimes a person sees a tiny green RES at the pet store and falls instantly in love. However it happens, new RES owners quickly realize there is more to keeping turtles than they first thought. Creating a good habitat for a turtle is not intuitive and can be expensive.
I'm here to help you create a healthy and attractive turtle habitat, and an even healthier turtle.

I volunteered at several animal hospitals over the past few years. Recently I've worked with a turtle rescue to help find homes for unwanted turtles.
