What I said above basically describes hiking in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Here you have an area that provides just about every kind of hike you can think of: long, short, steep, flat, rocky, grassy, etc. (and no rattlesnakes) It also lends itself very well to great mountain biking trails - some of the best in America, in fact.
Should you contact me about hiking here, I will share with you much of my knowledge on a particular hike or hikes, and considering I've hiked every inch of trails in the area several times, this information is rather extensive. (I've even video-taped much of it.) I'm loaded with maps and will be happy to share them with you through email. I'm not a great promoter of maps, however, as they don't really get down to the nitty-gritty of a hike. Of more importance is the actual description of the terrain; i.e. is the trail conducive to wearing thongs?
As for my touring guide endeavors, I have basically closed them down since having had a heart surgery last summer. Less difficult hikes, however, I might still consider. But regardless...everyone who heads out in the woods takes my heart with them.

Experience & Qualifications

Having been a resident of South Lake Tahoe for the past forty years, my single summer avocation has been hiking. Ah, yes; traded in the ball retriever for a fishing pole, the golf bag for a backpack, the cleats for hiking boots and the funny little cap for a pith helmet. Saved a lot of money, too, although when you hike 300-400 miles each summer, you will encounter some debt for sundry items.
In that period of time, I've taken a lot of people on different hikes (and recommended hikes to hundreds, probably thousands, of others)for many reasons: fishing (love the golden trout), studying wildflowers, swimming, picture-taking, picnicking, getting married, etc.
I'm not into cross-country, ridge-hopping and un-maintained trails where you might get lost. Mainly, I like to find out the condition of my people, learn what they want to do, how long they want to hike and over what kind of terrain, and then either be their guide or send them on their way.
I've spent two summers at the Chamber of Commerce/Forest Service Visitor's Center telling people where to hike (and fish). I've also written two books on the trails in the area (both being re-written at this time but soon to be released as E-books). In the process, I wrote 30 songs about my experiences.
My books have sold over 20,000 copies through only three local outlets.
Except for the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, the newly-created trails at the ski resorts and, perhaps, parts of the Granite Chief Wilderness, there is little that I am not familiar with.
